Update on Bodychecking in Youth Hockey

Did you know Canada.. we mentioned there was a call to eliminate bodychecking in youth hockey last month and Wednesday Ontario Hockey Federation announced a change commencing in the 2011-2012 season.

The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) has made the decision to ban bodychecking affects house leagues, including the select or all-star level - in an effort to create a safer environment for new players to develop skills. The ruling does not affect the higher divisions known as competitive or rep hockey.

The Ontario Hockey Federation is not every team in every town keep in mind, it represents about one-third of Canada's registered players. The OHF is one of three Hockey Canada Branches operating in the Province of Ontario and is the largest of all thirteen across Canada.
