Midnight Sun

Did you know Canada.. The midnight sun is a natural phenomenon occurring in summer months in Northern Canada (and other northern locations) where the sun remains visible at the local midnight and in fair weather, the sun is visible for a continuous 24 hours.

Many find it difficult to fall asleep during the night when the sun is shining and can leave many in an irritable mood.

Events surrounding the midnight sun include..

  • the Nunavut Midnight Sun Marathon is an annual 84 kilometres ultramarathon race that takes place in Arctic Bay, Nunavut

  • the Dawson City Music Festival in Dawson, Yukon - Dawson is close enough to experience the phenomenon due to light refraction

  • Golf at Midnight in the Northwest Territories - many golf courses in NWT are open around the clock
