* John Molson founded his brewery in Montreal in 1786, over 80 years prior to the founding of Canada!
* John Molson was in fact Canada’s original craft brewer
* it was John's belief that “an honest brew makes its own friends”
* in 1788 John Molson is among the first employers to pay his employees
* in 1800 glass bottles are introduced at John Molson’s brewery. A bottle of Molson costs 5 cents
* in 1808 John Molson introduces bottle deposits so that they can be refilled
* the maiden voyage of first Canadian steamship is in 1809, the Accommodation, built by John Molson
* it was in 1816 that John Molson is elected to the Legislative Assembly for a term of four years
* in 1822 John Molson spearheads the building of Montreal’s first public hospital
* during a speech to his employees in 1825 John Molson is quoted as saying: We are all members of a larger community which depends on everyone playing a part
* in 1836 it's the Inauguration of the nation’s first railway, largely funded by John Molson
* 1836 is also the year of John Molson's passing
* The Molson Bank officially commences operations in 1855, it will grow to 125 branches and merge with Bank of Montreal in 1925
* in 1890 the installation of a refrigeration system in the brewery makes it possible to brew year-round
* in 1907 Molson beer production reaches 1 million gallons! It will double again within only 2 years
* Molson owns one truck for beer delivery in 1910, horses are used to deliver beer year-round, through to 1947
* in 1953 the brewery produces 1,750,000 bottles of beer per day
* 1955 marks the year of the official opening of the Toronto brewery, the new brewery produces Molson’s first lager, Crown & Anchor
* by 1962 Molson is operating breweries from coast to coast
* in 2005 Molson merges with Coors Brewing Company of Colorado, another family-owned brewery and opens a new brewery in Moncton in 2007

ReplyDeleteMy descendants are Irish and I enjoy March 17th celebrations and stories that I tell my son. He is 7 years old, named Evan, and we recant Irish tales on that day, stories of Leprechauns. Innocent, yet times naive, he believes they are real. He also believes there really is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I hear this everytime there is a rainbow. He loves the green jello also. E & e.
ReplyDeleteMy paternal grandmother who passed away a couple of years ago was one of the last remaining survivors of the December 1917, Halifax Explosion. She was seriously injured and was left with a massive scar on her chest and down her arm. Oh how I miss her...

My late Grandmother who passed away in 1994 had 82 grandchildren and was well known to varies charities and to the old folks communities as well. She received many awards for her kindness. She was the type to bring everyone together, there is alot of history from her that my family still carries on to this day with the charities and such.
