What's going on in Your neck of the woods??

Did you know Canada.. though if you look it up, it sounds like every location has their own opinion, but I've been told that the phrase "neck of the woods" come from the Algonquian word Naiak.

Naiak refers to a narrow strip or corner of wooded land, usually protruding into water, the phrase comes from the very beginning of European settlement in North America.

Thinking about Algonquian I only think about Northern Ontario, but speakers of Algonquian languages stretch from the east coast of North America all the way to the Rocky Mountains. The Algonquian are actually one of the most populous and widespread North American Native language groups!

A great part of our Canadian history.
